The first of the Martin Bartruff family came to American in 1852.  My research of this family has progressed over a period of almost 25 years.  Initially I collected records in the United States.  Several years ago I made the move to tackle the records in Germany. Most of the early records are in "old German" and finding a translation was not always easy.  I finally made contact with Joan Gunn in California and she was gracious enough to help me make some of the translations.  The records are often faint, smeared and generally hard to read.  Sometimes phrasing was used that was not familiar to anyone I contacted.  At that point  we had to take the words we could translate to obtain a meaning.  As with any work, I am sure there are ommissions and errors.  Anyone wishing to add information can contact me at Stephenie Flora, PO Box 18453, Salem, OR 97305 or email me at SLFlora47@msn.com.

There appears to be no relationship to the Bartruffs that settled in early Pennsylvania.  The Martin Bartruff clan settled initially in New York and then into Ohio and Illinois.
