DENNIS JESSE FLORA (ISAAC B.7, JACOB6, JOHN5, JOSEPH4, JACOB3, JOSEPH J. FLORY2 SR, UNKNOWN1 FLORA) was born 06 Jan 1874 in Carroll Co, IN, and died 07 Apr 1957 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, CA.  He married (1) NELLIE JANE GERHOLD Abt. 1893 in Carroll Co, IN, daughter of LAWRENCE GERHOLD and EMMA STUTENROTH.  She was born 1877 in Carroll Co, IN, and died 1924 in CA.  He married (2) LUCY UNKNOWN Abt. 1930 in CA.

"Flora--Dennis J. Flora of 2214 Glenrose Ave., passed away April 7, 1957.  He was a native of Indiana and had been a resident of Altadena 28 years.  He is survived by his wife, Lucy Flora; three daughters, Mrs. Inez Jones and Mrs. Alice Ford, both of San Pedro, and Mrs. Lois O. Buckner of El Cajon, Calif; four sons, Beryl Flora of Woodburn, Ore., Carl Flora of Long Beach, Jesse D. Flora of North Hollywood, Calif., and John F. Flora of Pasadena; also fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.  Services Wednesday, April 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Utter-McKinley, Reynolds and Everle Mortuary, 825 E. Orange Grove Ave., conducted by Jean Valentine and William Reeves.  Interment Mountain View Cemetery." [Star News, Pasadena, CA Tuesday, April 9, 1957 p.A&]

Note: the above obituary and the funeral notice below were both on the same page.  The Obituary says he was in CA 28 years and the funeral notice say 39.  Since he is in CO in 1917 but is present in the 1920 CA census I would say the funeral notice is more correct and that he probably moved to CA around  1918.

"Dennis J. Flora Rites Tomorrow--Funeral services for Dennis J. Flora, 83, 2ho died on Sunday at his residence, 2214 Glenrose Ave., Altadena, will be conducted tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Utter-McKinley Reynolds & Eberie Mortuary.  Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
   A native of Indiana, Mr. Flora was a member of the Church of Christ and had made his home here for the past 39 years.
   He is survived by his wife, Lucy Flora; three daughters, Mrs. Inez Jones, Alice Ford and Mrs. Lois O. Buckner; four sons, Beryl, Carl, Jesse and John Flora; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren." [Star News, Pasadena, CA Tuesday, April 9, 1957 p.A&]

"L. Gray Buckner--   Scio--Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Huston mortuary for L. Gray Buckner, 87, of Scio, who died Sunday.
   Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Providence Cemetery, Scio.
   He was born in Austin, Texas.  He starred as a headline vaudeville performer and dancer on the Orpheum circuit, appearing around the world with stars such as Fred Astaire and George Burns and Gracie Allen.  He was a featured performer in the Warner Brothers' film So This Is Paris.  In 1932, he opened a dance studio in Pasadena, Calif., where his students included Lucille Ball and several child stars.  He later opened five dance studios in the San Diego area and owned and operated four hotels in California and Arizona.
   He retired in 1963 and moved to a ranch at Scio where he raised cattle and race horses.  He also owned six motels in Oregon between 1965 and 1980.  He was a member of the Scio Christian Church and Albany Elks Lodge No. 359.
   Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughter, Gail Mann, Scio; brothers Clarence, Wynoka, Okla., and Clyde, Lebanon; and sister, Louise Sparks, San Diego.
   Contributions may be made to the Santiam Memorial Hospital, Stayton."
