CROOKED FINGER BURIAL GROUND

"Crooked Finger Cemetery: Lots of people have forgotten-or didn't even know-about the old Crooked Finger Cemetery which was-and still is-located about a half-mile north northeast of the old Crooked Finger School, on the Plas and Korgan properties, in sections 6 and 7, Township 7 South, Range 2 East.  Research over the past several months has revealed the surprising fact that the cemetery was already there as early as December 1868 when the area was surveyed by the U.S. Government.  Research has also revealed that there were more than a few burials in that cemetery between 1866 and about 1914, but much information still remains to be discovered and properly documented.  Anyone with any information whatsoever on the names of persons buried there are urged to contact the society and share their knowledge with us, so that all of the information can be compiled and preserved for present and future generations.  Unfortunately, the cemetery has been vandalized over the years to such an extent that the only gravestone remaining is that of Charles W. McCown, on of the first-if not THE first-white settlers to the Crooked Finger area in the 1860s.  If you have any information at all about this cemetery, please help us by writing to the society at the above address.  Once we feel that we have all-or most-of the available information on this cemetery, we will publish our findings for the enlightenment of all interested parties."
