Champoeg was the site of the first warehouse of the Hudson's Bay Company on the Willamette River. The accessibility of Champoeg by both land and water caused it to be chosen as the meeting place to consider a Provisional Government. The site of the Champoeg meeting is now owned by the State of Oregon, and is a State Park.
