Chemawa, located on the NE edge of Salem is the site of the Chemawa Indian School. The school, established in [] is dedicated to the education of members of the Northwestern tribes. Enrollment at times has hovered at about 450 students.

The campus includes the main building, a gym and athletic field. A small cemetery is located on the edge of the campus. The school holds various events throughout the year that are open to the public.
