HOWELL PRAIRIE CEMETERY

"In 1986, while visiting
Howell Prairie Cemetery, I wandered
down through the headstones reading inscriptions. I became
captivated by the history contained in this small cemetery. One visit
turned into a second and then another As vandals continued to wreck
havoc on the old pioneer cemeteries I felt a need to do something to help preserve
the history of this cemetery. Many people contributed to my research and
to them I extend my thanks. Special thanks go to Addie Dyal Rickey and
to descendants of the pioneers buried here who contributed their
data. I would also like to thank the Howell Prairie Cemetery
Association who were so gracious in sharing their knowledge and files.
The following pages are my humble attempt to record what I have
learned. The obituaries are printed as they were originally and there
was no attempt to correct spelling or wording. There will be contradictions noted and
it is up to the individual researcher to pursue "the facts" in those
cases where the information may be questionable. I only documented what
I found so that there was a base to start from. The learning process will
continue long after these pages are published." [these were my comments
in 1988 when I published Howell Prairie Cemetery
1848-1898; today the process goes on]
